Greetings from a small town on the border between Nagasaki and Saga.
This is Takayama, a pottery manufacturer of Hasami ware.
|Let's think about the business challenges of Hasami ware|Nagasaki Prefectural University, Faculty of Business Administration, Department of Business Administration
The "Saikai- Mizuki Program" has been open since last year
This is a program in which students studying business administration at Nagasaki Prefectural University "work to improve local business challenges from a student's perspective."
I have been in charge of this program since last year.
However, since this was something that was suddenly asked of me, there was no preparation.
First of all, I would like to confirm the details and understand the other party's wishes, but... there is no time. It can't be helped.
Now, I have to think about what the challenges should be.
| Proposing Corporate Challenges
I'm also reporting on this on Instagram (☜).
So, what are the challenges facing you as a local business?
There are certainly many, aren't there?
Our company had specific challenges, such as streamlining our manufacturing process, but we concluded that it would be difficult to complete the data in time to provide them. Furthermore, the number of sessions (on-site) was limited to three afternoons.
This year, we've decided to have participants consider the following two challenges.
| Specific Company Challenges
① Although we offer free factory tours, there are limited people available to guide us because they are working. Therefore, could you please prepare a format with instructions so that we can tour the factory ourselves?
② Although Midouya(the restaurant on the premises) is very popular and attracts customers, there are no visitors to the factory tour or our directly managed store. Therefore, could you please come up with a tool to help Midouya customers learn about Takayama?
Regarding ①, I thought "using QR codes" would be ideal.
I needed to organize the links on my website (☜), but I've been meaning to do it for a while, so this was a good opportunity to finally get going.
Regarding ②, we decided on putting up flyers, and asked them to create them.
The first meeting ended once the content was decided. From the second meeting onwards, we put it into practice.
| Practice Scene
Once the assignment was decided, everyone moved quickly.
They immediately began taking photos of various locations and gathering the necessary data.
The results of the final day are shown below.
QR codes were clearly displayed on the information boards.
Flyers were placed on the Midouya counter, marking the end of the practice.
|Since they'd come all the way to Hasami Town,
Our company president, Kobayashi, prepared a gift for them: a meal at Midouya and a chance to try underglaze painting.
The students seemed delighted!

| Listening to the "Final Report"

We've posted updates on this on Instagram (☜).
Please take a look.
| Summary
This time, the "Saikai- Mizuki Program" was conducted for a total of nine companies.
When I was a student at Nagasaki Prefectural University, I recalled not having many opportunities to learn about local companies. Apparently, this was the trigger for the program.
The reports from other companies were also very interesting.
As was an issue last year, Hasami Town is quite an inconvenient location.
Please come visit us again when you're an adult and have a car!
