SDGs

— From the Craftsmanship Floor to a Sustainable Future —

As a company engaged in the ceramic industry, including Hasami ware, Takayama Co., Ltd. is committed to reducing environmental impact and making effective use of local resources throughout every stage of manufacturing and distribution.
We regard our daily business activities themselves as opportunities to put the SDGs into practice,

steadily taking practical yet meaningful steps forward.

Takayama’s SDGs Initiatives >

1.Recycling Waste Plaster Molds (Reused as Fertilizer)

Plaster molds, indispensable in ceramic production, gradually lose their precision with repeated use and are eventually discarded.
At Takayama, we are working to reuse plaster molds that were previously treated as industrial waste as soil conditioners and fertilizer materials.

Reduction of waste
Effective use of natural resources
Circular utilization within local agriculture

This is a circular initiative that transforms by-products generated through manufacturing into new value.

2. Effective Use of Broken and Non-Standard Ceramics

We also make every effort to reduce waste from items such as breakage, distortion, and non-standard products generated during the manufacturing process.

Crushing them for reuse as soil materials or other resources
Utilizing some for testing, display, or internal use
Fostering the mindset of treating items that cannot be sold as products as “resources”

Rather than viewing defects as waste, we value the perspective of making the most of every material.

3. Preserving and Passing Down the Local Industry and Division of Labor System

Hasami ware is sustained by a division of labor system involving many businesses, including clay suppliers, mold makers, body producers, and kilns.
As a central hub, Takayama contributes to the continuity of the local industry.

Ongoing partnerships with local businesses
Collaboration with small-scale enterprises and artisans
Building systems that protect work across the entire production area

Supporting the regional economy and employment is also an important part of our commitment to the SDGs.

4. Proposing Long-Lasting, Non-Disposable Tableware

The ceramic products handled by Takayama are designed for everyday and professional use, offering durability for long-term use.

Promoting a culture of reusable tableware
Positioning tableware not as disposable items, but as tools to be cherished and grown with
Reducing replacement frequency and minimizing waste

Through our tableware, we convey values that do not rely on mass consumption.

5. Shipping and Logistics Designed to Avoid Excessive Packaging

While ensuring safety during transportation, we take measures to avoid excessive packaging.

Use of only the minimum necessary packaging materials
Utilization of reusable materials
Reduction of waste in packaging and logistics processes

The accumulation of small improvements leads to a reduction in environmental impact.
