This is Takayama, the pottery manufacturer of Hasami ware.

| A new restaurant has opened in Hasami Town!

It's been about two years since we started renovating the 120-year-old house of our former president.

Did you know that it has been turned into a wonderful restaurant?

MIDOUYA

When I joined the company, I was still able to see the old house in its original state.

I was surprised at how spacious it was, and thought, "Is this a house? Not a community center?"

| Renovated building

Now, here is a story from “Public Relations Oshima”, who used to work hard in the construction field.

The renovation of this property involved monthly meetings, and I attended and watched the process. I also posted about it on SNS.

The building was designed by Kei Harada (DO.DO. Co., Ltd.), who also designed the stylish pottery store “OYANE” in Hasami.

He visited the site from Tokyo every month and held multiple meetings.

A sophisticated design. A wonderful place different from OYANE has been born.

I would like to point out some points that you should definitely check out.

Have you ever heard of a "saraita" ?

A saraita is a board used to transport utensils. Because Hasami has a division of labor system, items were often transported outside the company as part of a process. At that time, they were engraved with a name to indicate that they belonged to the company. Looking at them now, they are very quaint and beautiful! We have reused these items, so please take a look at the walls, tables, and chairs of the restaurant.

In Takayama, there was a "tunnel kiln" that looked like a long tunnel and was in operation until the site was relocated two years ago.

The many bricks were removed from the tunnel kiln, which had served its purpose as soon as the site was relocated.

Those are the bricks used around the outside of the temple.

｜"Heart Bricks"

While laying the bricks, I asked the craftsman a favor.

Oshima: "Can you lay the heart bricks?"

Craftsman: "Oh? Sure."

Oshima: "What! That's that easy?"

Craftsman: "Sure, see! Is this okay?"

Oshima: "(impressed)..."

In fact, there's a heart hidden inside as well.

The materials used for the ceiling and beams are almost all recycled.

What surprised me was how carefully these materials were stored.

I asked Nishikai Touki's Chairman Kodama about this.

"We don't know what we'll use it for, but we store everything because we don't want to waste it.

Luckily, we have plenty of space (for storage)."

So sustainable efforts have been deeply rooted in the company for a long time.

The store is spacious and open.

It's amazing how that old house can be transformed into such a space.

Unusually for a buffet, all the side plates are Hasami ware.

After all, you've come all the way to Hasami Town, so we want you to experience Hasami ware.

Of course, Takayama products will also be on display (as well as products from Saikai Touki, which is in the same group).

All that's left to do is enjoy the delicious food.

Currently, it is very popular and crowded.

Reservations for the next month seem to open around the end of the month (around the 25th), so please keep an eye on the announcements on Instagram (☚).
